New Shoes – Brooks PureConnect

A shoe review, as my first post in a while? Yep – life has been strange and completely chaotic lately. Writing seems to take a backseat when it is as such.

Now, Inspiration usually causes me to write and so when i strapped these puppies on this morning I thought for sure I had to share the news and views.

Simply put, the early feedback, is that this shoe rocks. If you like minimalist shoes, a low heel to toe drop (4mm) and overall comfort, low weight all the while feeling like you actually have a shoe on…this one is for you.

You may know that I have been a Saucony Kinvara fan for the past 2 years and I still am, but these shoes may be sharing the duties from now on. After tomorrow’s Around The Bay Race, I will have a better idea of how they perform for me in the long run…literally. So check back later as I update this review.

Mine are a nice bright, very shiny and sporty blue. I was looking to wear red and white again this year in Boston but that was not an option. I have to choose function over performance here folks.

More info on this shoe can be found here

How about you? What shoes are doing it for you these days? I’d love to hear from you.

Follow up – I have now had a few runs on these shoes, including the Around the Bay 30k after only one previous run of 12k on them. Wow – they were great!

The high toe area allows for lots of room. No soreness at all at the end of the Around the Bay (plus a few km warmup before the race)

they are so light it feels like slippers, yet they have a very soft landing and promote a forefoot strike with a good roll.

I couldn’t recommend these more!

Crazy mad runner, wanting to be fitter and faster but too busy to do it right. Still, I keep trying.

Great review. Though an Asics Kayano runner for years, I took your advice and got a pair of Kinvara. Brooks is too “hot” in Canada, will get them in Boston.
Took Kinvara for a 31k fast finish long run and one word says it all, “freedom”. What a great feeling. Cannot thank you enough.

There’s no doubt that the Kinvara’s are in my opinion the best all round shoe on the market. Long runs, speedwork, racing short and long distances. I’d even consider wearing them for an ultra. And they perform well on trails too with their wide soles.

The PureConnect do give a lighter, faster feel though. I wore them Saturday for a 5k. PB’d with 18:40. Can’t argue with that!
